The Infinite Potential of Renewable Resources
Grateful for the blessings of nature
I am Richard, and together with Sally, we have been engaged in the pine chemical industry for nearly 30 years. Since graduating from university in 1988 and entering the foreign trade business, we have been rooted in and operating in this industry.
This blog website is independent of our company (foreverest.net) and is a non-commercial website. We want to share publicly available industry information such as technical documents, market reports, academic papers, and other content that we collect in our daily lives. In the near future, as we are about to retire, we hope to leave some traces in this industry where we have dedicated our lives.
The COVID-19 pandemic in China over the past years has given us a lot to think about. Uncertainties such as the public health crisis and regional wars have greatly shaken the previously stable supply chain market. With the slowdown of China’s economy in recent years, it is a great challenge to maintain the confidence to do business in the original way.
At the same time, we have also observed that the industrialization and commercialize of pine chemicals and biobased monomers are playing an increasingly practical role in the fields of cleaning and medicine. This makes us full of expectation and confidence in the work we are doing. As the Chinese saying goes: ” At age fifty, one knows the density. At age sixty, one able to listen to suggestions and understands trade-offs.“
The starting route of China’s pine chemicals is different from that of Europe and North America. The starting process of pine chemicals in Europe and North America can be traced back to the deep processing industry of CTO (crude tall oil, click to learn the six life cycle stages of CTO), which is a derivative of the recycling of the paper industry. The starting scheme of rosin compounds in China is similar to that of Brazil. Due to the incomplete recycling system of the paper industry, it often starts directly from the collection of gum rosin and gum turpentine from pine trees.
In Guangdong and Guangxi provinces of China, there are abundant resources of P.massoniana and P.elliottii. Domestically, rosin is often obtained from these two types of trees by tapping. The gum rosin and gum turpentine obtained by tapping are used as raw materials and circulated as bulk commodities in the market. Past basic research started from the study of the composition of gum rosin and gum turpentine.
α-pinene and β-pinene are the basic components of gum turpentine. At present, many in-depth studies are based on the chiral modification of downstream substances of pinene derives. After chiral modification, the downstream substances of pinene can be used as raw materials for flavors and fragrances, and pharmaceutical intermediates.
In this blog website, we will collect relevant information based on similar pinene derives that can be disclosed. Similarly, biobased monomers from other plant volatile oils are also our focus.
